Announcing New Qualifications and Services
Pacific North West ISA Chapter
Wildfire Risk Reduction Qualified
We are pleased to announce that the PNW ISA and Washington State DNR have adopted a new credential and training for arborists. Jesse is one of the first of 19 arborists across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia BC to hold this qualification. This training puts the assessment of vegetation management into the hands of specialized experts. ‘When I teach this to firefighters all they see in the landscape is FUEL. You guys are the professionals that have the expertise to distinguish various plants in the landscape.’ Guy Gillford Wa DNR
Washington State DNR is offering matching grants up to $20,000 for vegetation management within non-commercial forested lands, as well as other funding sources.
With the sensitive environmental nature of the island it is also critical to account for rainwater interception, canopy cover, habitat and other critically important benefits plants play with our landscapes. These are the triple edges of the triangle balancing seasonal needs with climate change; increased precipitation (winter), fire risk (summer), and mitigation management (effective and efficient use of resources).
We can help you balance how vegetation decreases fire risk while mitigating;
•Increased management of understory
•Increases invasive plants
•Decreases rain interception and increases erosion
•Increases soil temperature and evaporation
Many areas are experiencing home owners insurance companies significantly increasing premiums, or outright dropping coverage due to fire risk projections. Currently there is effort to pass legislation implementing NFPA Firewise® models into mandated building codes. We are here to help our clients and community navigate these shifts, and provide adaptability for holistic results.
